Mill Point Prison Revisited

August 22, 2014 |

If you’ve already listened to the Traveling 219 Mill Point Prison story you’re familiar with Ed and Agnes Friel, who spent time around the prison camp as kids while their parents worked there. Ed recently sent us these photos from a visit Agnes’ parents took to the prison camp a few years after it had closed! To hear their story, click here.

The entire prison taken from up the hill behind the camp. You can see the apartments and lodge building at the top of the picture. The Administration building is the long building at the upper part of the picture; the kitchens and mess hall were in the building at the bottom, in front of what looks to be a barn. The other buildings were dorms where the inmates were housed. Photo courtesy of Ed and Agnes Friel.

Agnes’ mother in front of the lodge, where officers and families held parties, dances, and other social activities. Ed’s family lived in the apartment at far right. Photo courtesy of Ed and Agnes Friel.

Agnes’ father in front of the Administration building. Photo courtesy of Ed and Agnes Friel.

Agnes’ mother on the front steps of the first group of six officer’s apartments. These would have been the front steps to the warden’s apartment. Photo courtesy of Ed and Agnes Friel.
